Laminar Studios developed a custom bunk system for a 46ft high-performance sailing catamaran, addressing the need for adaptable interior space in a performance-oriented vessel. Designed with modularity in mind, the entire bunk can be disassembled and stowed away when not in use, maximizing the available living area and maintaining the clean, open aesthetic required for efficient sailing. The bunk system features a perforated sleeping platform supported by a robust tubular frame, ensuring both comfort and stability during use. One side of the bunk is secured using high-strength elastic rope, providing a degree of suspension that absorbs motion from the vessel and enhances comfort for the occupant in rough sea conditions. Each component is lightweight, making it easy to handle and store without adding unnecessary weight to the vessel, a critical factor for high-performance sailing. This project exemplifies Laminar Studios’ focus on delivering practical, performance-driven solutions that cater to the unique demands of modern sailing yachts. By enhancing interior flexibility without compromising weight or functionality, and incorporating a dynamic suspension feature to improve occupant comfort during passages, the foldable bunk system ensures the catamaran remains both versatile and true to its high-performance design philosophy.
